If you are looking for the best hikes in the Atlas Mountains from Marrakech, this tour is for you. In this adventure tour, you will go hiking deep into the High Atlas Mountains to explore the lifestyle of Berbers in the villages; you will hike Mount Toukbal 4167 meters (13,671 ft) the highest peak in North Africa. You will explore the beautiful south of Morocco and learn more about the Berber culture and their hospitality. At the end of your trip, you will visit the famous Moroccan Sahara sand dunes of Merzouga (Erg Chebbi).
Today you will meet your English speaking mountain guide at your hotel in Marrakech and drive to the High Atlas Mountains, the trek starts from Imlil (1740m), a small Berber village 67km from Marrakech. Here you will meet our team with mules to carry your luggage and food to start your amazing adventure.
You start the walk through the Berber villages to explore the wonderful insights of Berber culture and the lifestyle in the Atlas Mountains, following a mule track which will take you to the mountain hut via shrine Sidi Shamharoche (2500m). Here you will have your picnic lunch prepared in advance by our cook. After lunch, you will continue towards the refuge (2300m). The shower is available to clean your body and be ready for the next day. (About 6 hours walking)
Wake up early for breakfast (about 5 o’clock) and start the ascent climb to reach Toubkal peak (4167m) the highest peak in North Africa about sunrise time. we will walk up step by step to reach the mountain pass of Toubkal (4000 m), we will continue our walk on the ridge to arrive at Toubkal peak where you will have a spectacular view to Marrakech, the Anti Atlas to the south and the green valley and Berber villages around the peak from your highest point in North Africa. You will have a break on the summit to take pictures and enjoy the beautiful view and eat some snacks before heading down to the hut. A delicious lunch will be ready for you there. After lunch, you have a relaxing afternoon. (About 6 hours walking)
Today after breakfast we will head down towards Imlil by the same track, afternoon at leisure in imlil town. (About 4 hours walking)
You will be picked up by our English speaking driver and guide from your accommodation in Imlil and drive to crossing the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka pass 2260m, one of the most beautiful roads of Morocco. The driver will make some stops for nice panoramic pictures along the way and continue forwards to the Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Many films have been shot there including The Mummy, Gladiator, 7 Days in Tibet, Lawrence of Arabia, Alexander the Great, and Babel. After the visit of the Kasbah, we continue towards Ouarzazate The door of the desert by visiting Kasbah of Taourirt and the film studios. After Ouarzazate, we take The Road of 1000 Kasbahs by crossing skoura palm grove and KalaatM’Gouna (Rose valley), which is known for its roses from April to May the roses bloom. You end up your day in Dades gorge.
This morning after breakfast you will drive to the Toudra gorges; where you will face one of the most impressive oases in the country, you are going to walk through the spectacular gorge where rocks towelling above 300m, while the passage is only 30m wide; famous for rock climbing. After the walk, you drive to the most beautiful and fabulous sand dunes of Merzouga (Erg Chebbi), 150 meters high. Upon arrival to the hotel, you pack a small bag for the night in the camp, your luggage stays at the hotel and starts your camel ride to capture magical sunset in the middle of the dunes and spend the night at camp with tents.
You will wake up early this morning to catch the spectacular sunrise at the top of the dunes before you ride the camels back to the hotel, where a breakfast and a deserved nice hot shower await. Today we drive towards Draa Valley the biggest Oasis in Morocco through Rissani and Nqob towns. Cross the most mysterious desert landscapes and the Anti Atlas Mountains, continuing to Ouarzazate along the Draa valley and from here we are going to cross the High Atlas Mountains via Tizi n’Tichka pass 2260m to arrive to Marrakech.
